About the event

Join us in exploring the headwater stream habitat upstream of the Mayo Mill Dam, interact with some endagerged fish, and talk with a state biologist. We will meet with the Maine Department of Marine Resources, Pete Ruksznis, and help with the stocking of Atlantic salmon into the stream as a part of the recovery efforts.  Pete is from Guildford and has been a biologist with the state for many years working on Atlantic Salmon in the Piscataquis River.

In total this would be a 2 hour field trip. We could meet at the parking area behind the mill in Dover Foxcroft and caravan/carpool together at 9:30am. It’s about a 30 min drive. Spend an hour with Pete, then drive back to Town. The site is easy to access so no technical hiking skills necessary, I am told. We are going to the bridge on Coles Corner Road. If you would like to get into the river, you will need to wear appropriate footwear but staying along the river bank will be okay too. Also be mindful of ticks.

Event is caped at 25 people. RSVP to hold your spot.
